Northbound Studios acquires rights to short story, THE
UNVEILING WIND
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Alberta – April 10, 2006 –
Northbound Studios has acquired the rights to a short story
entitled THE UNVEILING WIND and is planning to comission a
screenplay based on the property. The story is about the deteriorating
mental state of deeply religious man that believes he is the
instrument in fulfilling terrible and violent prophecies.
Deric Olsen, founder of Northbound Studios Inc., an independent
film production company in Canada, said he wants to "explore
the abuse of faith in fundamentalist religious sects and the
effect such groups have on the sincerely devout."
"Religion has been, and likely always will be, a potentially
contentious subject," said Olsen. "Truly dramatic
material is founded on principals that contain conflict, whether
it be physical or emotional. This story is one that has the
potential to resonate profoundly with audiences within the
framework of a crime thriller."
The short story revolves around a vulnerable man, compelled
by a belief that he must engage in fulfilling violent prophetic
writings from biblical times in order to be saved, and a cynical
law-enforcement agent who must solve a series of ritual slayings
that criss-cross the region, all with the same signature.
Northbound Studios has paid a "nominal amount"
for the short story, but has acquired all rights to the property
and now has complete freedom to adapt the work for the big
screen. "We are always in search of compelling material
that is dramatic, engaging and aimed at reaching audiences
outside the traditional Hollywood system. This will be a project
to watch for with great anticipation, " said Olsen.
Northbound Studios is an emerging digital film production
company dedicated to producing high quality, entertaining
and commercially viable film & television content here
in Canada.
